A Flash from the Past - Where it all began!
In February 2005, Women in Transition of South Florida launched its first computer skills training program at Charity Motors on NW 23rd Street. Gregory Jacobs, whom I met on Thanksgiving morning 2004, opened his doors to our vision and provided the space we needed. With computers donated by the Office of the Public Defender and furniture from the Bargain Barn, we created a foundation for transformation.
Throughout 2005, women from the Miami Rescue Mission and across Greater Miami found a space for growth and empowerment. These classes were more than technical training—they became safe havens where women of all ages and backgrounds gained confidence, support, and purpose.
Reflecting on these beginnings, we are inspired to continue creating opportunities for women seeking skills and hope. Together, we can keep building brighter futures—because every journey begins with a single step.
